We are excited to announce the achievement of our postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Anup Kumar Srivastava, who has been awarded a prestigious PhRMA Foundation Fellowship! 🎉

Dr. Srivastava’s research is focused on developing a novel cell-based therapy for Dravet Syndrome (DS), a severe neurological disorder that causes recurrent seizures, developmental delays, and an increased risk of sudden unexpected death from epilepsy (SUDEP). DS is caused by a genetic mutation that disrupts sodium channel function in neurons, impairing their ability to regulate electrical activity in the brain.

To address this, Dr. Srivastava is engineering cells that, when delivered to affected brain regions, can develop into functional neurons—helping restore normal brain function. His work also tackles major challenges such as ensuring cell survival, preventing unwanted migration, and promoting proper neural integration.

A key innovation in this approach is the use of a 3D-printed micron-scale cell delivery vehicle, which allows for precise placement of therapeutic cells, enhancing their ability to grow and integrate into the brain’s neural circuits. This cutting-edge technology has the potential to reduce seizures, improve cognitive function, and prevent SUDEP in children with Dravet Syndrome.

Dr. Srivastava’s fellowship recognizes the impact of this groundbreaking work and highlights the transformative potential of regenerative medicine in treating neurological disorders. We are incredibly proud of his achievement and look forward to seeing how his research progresses toward real-world clinical applications.
